Petnexa dog and cat silicon lick mat
$23.99
A textured silicone mat that suctions to a smooth surface. Spread something soft across it — wet food, yoghurt, xylitol-free peanut butter — and your pet has to lick it out of the grooves instead of taking it in one go.
What it does
- Occupies a pet while you do something they dislike. Stuck to the side of the bath or the tiles, it keeps a dog busy through a wash, a brush-out or a nail trim — which is the main reason most people buy one.
- Stretches out a treat. A tablespoon of something soft spread thin lasts several minutes.
- Suction base. Sticks to bath enamel, tiles, glass and any smooth flat surface.
- Two textures. Deep grooves and raised bumps, so it works with runnier and thicker foods.
- Six colours. Purple, blue, blue-green, green, beige and grey.
Good to know
- Freeze it loaded for a much longer session — that is the trick that makes a lick mat worth having.
- Peanut butter must be xylitol-free. Xylitol is toxic to dogs and appears in some sugar-free spreads. Check the label every time you buy a new jar.
- Whatever goes on the mat counts as part of the day's food. It is easy to add a few hundred calories a day without noticing.
- Supervise. Silicone is not a chew toy, and a dog who bites chunks off one should not have it.
- The suction needs a clean, smooth, dry-ish surface. It will not hold on textured tile or timber.
