A bowl with a moulded maze in the base. Kibble falls into the channels and your pet has to work it out a few pieces at a time, which turns a thirty-second meal into several minutes.

What it does

  • Slows a fast eater down. The ridges stop your pet taking a full mouthful, so they eat in small amounts instead of inhaling the bowl.
  • Gives them something to do. Working food out of a maze is mild problem-solving, and a bored indoor cat or dog benefits from that at every meal.
  • Non-slip base. Stays put instead of being pushed around the kitchen floor.
  • Sized for cats and small dogs. Shallow enough that a cat's whiskers are not pressed against the sides.
  • Many colours and patterns. Jungle and heart maze designs across seventeen colourways.

An honest note on the health claims

  • A slow feeder slows eating. That much is simply what it does. Whether slower eating prevents bloat is not settled, and we are not going to tell you it does.
  • If you have a deep-chested dog — a Great Dane, Standard Poodle, Weimaraner, Setter or similar — talk to your vet about bloat risk. It is a genuine emergency and a bowl is not a plan for it.
  • Some dogs get frustrated with a maze and give up, and some just tip the bowl. Watch the first few meals.
  • Best for dry food. Wet food packs into the channels and is a nuisance to clean out.
