What it does

• Two take food. Pack the bone and the dumbbell with kibble, peanut butter without xylitol, or plain yoghurt, and freeze them for a longer session.

• Natural rubber. Flexible rather than rigid, so it gives under the jaw instead of resisting it.

Good to know

• Sized for puppies and small to medium dogs. A large or powerful chewer will get through these — they are not built for that.
• Chewing on textured rubber helps lift softer plaque, and a food toy slows down a fast eater. Neither replaces tooth brushing or a proper dental check with your vet.
• Check the toys over weekly. Once a piece can be chewed off, throw it out — swallowed rubber fragments are the injury that actually happens with chew toys.
• Never leave a dog alone with a food-stuffed toy the first few times. Watch how they work at it before you trust them with it.
• Peanut butter must be xylitol-free. Xylitol is toxic to dogs, and it appears in some sugar-free spreads.
