• Cat-head buckle. The supplier describes it as a breakaway safety buckle, made to open under pressure if the collar catches on a branch, a fence or a cupboard handle.
• Soft band. A velvet-look strap that sits lighter against the neck than stiff nylon.
• Adjusts from 19 to 30 cm. A slider sets the length, from a small kitten neck to an adult cat's. The band is about 1 cm wide.
• Bell and heart charm. The bell lets you hear where your cat is; the charm is for looks.

• Two fingers. You should be able to slide two fingers flat between the collar and your cat's neck. Tighter can rub or restrict; looser lets a paw or jaw get caught in it.
• Check the buckle before first use. Hold the collar either side of the buckle and pull: it should come apart. The release is the supplier's description and we have not measured the force it takes.
• A breakaway collar is designed to be lost. Keep your cat's microchip details up to date: the collar is the backup, not the plan.
• Never attach a lead. A breakaway buckle can open under the pull. Use a harness for walks.
• Small parts. The stones, bell and charm are small enough to swallow. Check them weekly and take the collar off if anything is loose. It is not for a cat who chews at collars.
• Check the fit every month on a growing kitten.

Wipe with a damp cloth and let it air dry. Do not soak it: water can loosen the stones and dull the bell.
